I am Arlene Maynard and I have devoted 27 years supporting families as a Newborn Care Specialist & Postpartum Doula. Throughout my extensive NCS career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse array of families, including 74 sets of twins, 4 sets of triplets and 1 set of quadruplets. A huge part of my job as a NCS focused on helping hundreds of families cultivate healthy sleep foundations for their newborns as well as doing in home sleep training for older babies. It is from here that I decided to further my education in pediatric sleep and got certified as a Pediatric Sleep Consultant by the My Sweet Sleep Academy, followed by other trainings including Isla Grace Baby.
Led sleep course for professionals, the mini Holistic sleep course by Lyndsey Hookway, the Special Needs sleep course by IPSP and Sleep Strategies course for children ages 0-5 from the Child Sleep Institute. These enriching experiences and solid education have reinforced my belief that effective nurturing care stems from understanding each family’s unique needs.
My approach is anchored in providing individualized support. I listen attentively, adapting my methods to cultivate a warm, nurturing environment that promotes the well-being of both parents and their newborns. Witnessing families flourish with confidence and competence as they embark on the journey of parenthood brings me immense joy.
To offer the most comprehensive support possible, I have expanded my expertise to include roles as a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, which has been invaluable when working with breastfeeding families who also require sleep support. My other qualifications include being a CACHE Certified Newborn Care Specialist and also hold a Advanced NCS certification through the Newborn Care Specialist Association (NCSA), a CAPPA Certified Postpartum Doula, and a Perinatal behavioral health coach. My training in the RIE method, the Develop*Connect*Nurture method, along with my CPR certification, underscores my commitment to creating a safe, caring space for newborns. These qualifications empower me to address both the physical and emotional needs of the families I serve.
I am currently pursuing certification as a birth doula with CAPPA. My personal journey, which involved a life threatening injury that i sustained during a C-section where I felt unheard, have driven my passion for advocacy in medical and home settings. This experience motivates my desire to become a full spectrum doula in NYC, aiming to provide families with the support and
advocacy i once needed. My goal is to support families as they navigate the rewarding and sometimes challenging experience of welcoming a new life with grace and reassurance.
As a mother of two, grandmother of three, and the eldest of four siblings, I draw on my personal experiences to infuse empathy and warmth into my professional role. Additionally, as a certified infant massage instructor, I delight in empowering parents with techniques that foster a deep bond with their little.
